South Africa Makes the Year of The World Cup T20

At the beginning of 2022, very few Cricket fans would have given South Africa a chance of glory at this year’s World Cup. The team had problems in the shorter formats and was always looking for effective replacements for the recently retired players.

All that changed after a positive tour of England. The test team is currently tackling the red ball stage of this Tour, but the ODI and T20 teams have already left their mark.

Successful series

The ODI and T20i series between England and South Africa had a best-of-three format. The One-day Internationals ended 1-1 after rain cancelled out any chance of scoring in the Final.

The teams then played in the T20 series and the South Africans took the lead thanks to two singles matches. David Miller’s team lost the opening game in Bristol, but responded positively, improving to 1-1 before recording an emphatic 90-point victory in the final game at the Rose Bowl.

It is worth remembering that England are the over-50 world champions and also reached the semi-finals of the T20 tournament when it was last held in 2021.

All eyes are on the World Cup

Other matches will take place until the start of the T20 World Championship in October, but the 16 qualified teams will begin preparations for the major event. It will take place from October 16 to November 13 with Australia as the host and defending champion.

With home-field advantage as a potential factor, Australia is one of the three common favourites in the World Cup-winning markets. England and India are the teams leading the betting.

As for South Africa, David Miller’s men are part of a chasing group that includes New Zealand and Pakistan.
